As Chandrayaan-3 inches closer to its historic landing on the moon’s south pole, optimism around India‘s space program is soaring high. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has initiated the automatic landing sequence (ALS), setting the stage for this momentous event. In the run-up to the landing, the stocks of 13 companies in the space sector have rallied, reflecting the market’s confidence in India’s space endeavors.

Rally in Space Sector Stocks

According to data compiled by Bloomberg News, stocks of companies associated with the space sector – ranging from providers of electronics components to metal gears for rocket communication – have collectively gained more than $2.5 billion in market value.

  • Linde India: The company’s shares surged by 23% this week, closing at ₹5,923 (up 2.73%) on Wednesday. Linde India‘s contributions were crucial for the Chandrayaan-3 mission, providing essential modules and systems.
  • Centum Electronics: As a provider of critical modules and systems for Chandrayaan-3, Centum Electronics witnessed an 11% rally this week. Its shares closed 14.51% higher on Wednesday at ₹1,648.
  • Avantel: A satellite communication provider, Avantel, experienced a more than 12% jump in its stock price this week. Shares closed at ₹235 (up 1.34%) on Wednesday.
  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL): HAL, which manufactured the Lander Module ‘Vikram‘ of Chandrayaan-3, achieved a 3.5% rally to reach a new 52-week high on Wednesday. This marks the third consecutive rally for HAL’s share price, which closed at ₹4,043 (up 3.89%).

Opportunities for Future Growth

Market strategists highlight that companies participating in missions like Chandrayaan-3 stand to gain significant opportunities. Kranthi Bathini, a strategist with Mumbai-based WealthMills Securities Pvt, noted that such companies could potentially become integral to global projects in the future and export their services.

As the world watches with bated breath, India is holding its collective breath and hoping for a safe landing of Chandrayaan-3. Across various parts of the country, puja ceremonies are being organized to pray for the successful landing of the Lander Module ‘Vikram’.
