This will be Rahul Gandhi’s first public meeting after being disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha.
KC Venugopal, the Congress General Secretary, confirmed the news via Twitter, saying that Rahul Gandhi is the voice of the people and will continue to raise his voice, which will only get louder and stronger.
Janata Dal-Securlar leaders have also expressed that people will reject national parties in the assembly polls.
On March 29th, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the Karnataka Assembly elections. The polling will take place in a single phase on May 10th, and the counting of votes will be done on May 13th.
Rahul Gandhi was recently convicted in the 2019 defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ remark made during an election rally in Karnataka. A Surat district court sentenced him to two years imprisonment, and he was disqualified from the Lok Sabha.
However, the sentence of two-year imprisonment has been suspended for 30 days, and Rahul Gandhi has to appeal against the conviction. The disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha has been one of the flashpoints between the Congress party and the ruling BJP, with opposition parties accusing the Centre of diverting attention from the Adani issue.
