Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot accused the BJP and RSS of creating an atmosphere for people to talk about separatist movements like Khalistan.
Speaking at a workers’ conference, Gehlot pointed to the recent comments made by Amritpal Singh, the leader of Waris Punjab De, about Khalistan.
Singh had reportedly said that if Mohan Bhagwat and Narendra Modi could talk about Hindu Rashtra, then why should he not talk about Khalistan. Gehlot criticized Singh for making such statements and accused him of being audacious because of the atmosphere created by the BJP and RSS.
Gehlot also warned that the politics of religion is being played in the country, and it is crucial to bring together people from all religions and castes to keep the country united.
He highlighted that this is not the first time such incidents have happened in the country and warned that creating divisions can have dangerous consequences.
Gehlot further referenced the assassination of Indira Gandhi, who was killed by Sikh separatists in 1984, and credited her for not allowing the creation of Khalistan.
Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh, who has been on the run since March 18, appeared in an unverified video claiming that he will soon “appear in front of the world.”
Singh has been declared a fugitive by Punjab Police and is wanted in connection with the storming of Ajnala police station in Amritsar on February 23.
Singh’s supporters had demanded the release of one of his close aides, Lovepreet Toofan. Singh denied rumors that he is in police custody and claimed that he will return soon. He also stated that he is not the kind of person who would go abroad and put out videos.
The Rajasthan Chief Minister’s warning against the politics of religion and the need to keep the country united is an important reminder of the dangers of creating divisions.
