India has pledged USD 2 million to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) for the year 2023. This financial aid will help AMISOM in its peacekeeping operations in Somalia, which has been affected by a long-standing conflict. The contribution was announced during a virtual meeting of the United Nations Security Council on 5th April 2023.

India’s ambassador to the United Nations, T S Tirumurti, highlighted India’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in Somalia. He acknowledged the significant role played by AMISOM in enhancing security, reducing violence, and promoting political progress in the region.
