The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of trying to divert attention from the corruption within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by seeking details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s degrees.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized Kejriwal’s real intention of diverting the issue of corruption within AAP, following a court’s dismissal of former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia‘s bail plea in the Delhi Excise Policy case.
Poonawalla referred to Sisodia as the “number one” accused in the case and alleged that “the corruption degree of Kejriwal and Manish came out in the open.”
In a veiled reference to two senior AAP leaders, Satyender Jain and Manish Sisodia, who are currently in jail, Poonawalla stated that Kejriwal’s move to seek degree details of the Prime Minister is a tactic to divert the public from corruption issues.
He accused Kejriwal of playing “low degree politics” and alleged that his real intention is to hide the corruption of Manish and himself.
The Gujarat High Court has ruled that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) need not provide the degree and post-graduate degree certificates of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, setting aside the Chief Information Commission (CIC) order.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Kejriwal. The Gujarat University claimed that it had uploaded the PM’s degree on its website on 9 May 2016 “in observance of the highest degree of fairness and transparency.” It also asserted that the respondents were “arbitrarily seeking to litigate on the issue for extraneous and oblique motives.”
Poonawalla took a “kattar imaandaar” jibe at Chief Minister Kejriwal, claiming that investigative agencies had found Rs 100 crore during searches at Sisodia’s residence.
AAP leaders have repeatedly claimed that nothing was found during the searches, but according to Poonawalla, the investigative agencies discovered Rs 100 crore at Sisodia’s residence.
